Ohio State is making a big move regarding their coaching staff, as the Buckeyes are set to promote Keenan Bailey to co-offensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Bailey will remain the tight ends coach for the team as well, Thamel noted. He’ll work with recently promoted offensive coordinator Brian Hartline and new run-game coordinator Tyler Bowen to create a formidable replacement for Chip Kelly in Columbus.

“Sources: Ohio State is set to promote Keenan Bailey to co-offensive coordinator,” Thamel reported. “He’ll remain tight ends coach and work with recently promoted offensive coordinator Brian Hartline and new run-game coordinator Tyler Bowen. Bailey has worked at OSU in various roles since 2016.”

As Thamel alluded to, Bailey just finished up his eighth season on the Ohio State football staff. Previously, he spent two seasons at his alma mater, Notre Dame, working as a recruiting analyst for the Irish football program, per his profile on the team’s website.

“Keenan is an excellent coach,” Day said last offseason, via the Ohio State website. “He’s a really sharp young man who’s going to do unbelievable things in his career. And the relationships he’s built over time with former players, current players, recruits and family has been excellent. He’s got a very bright future ahead of him.”

Moving forward, Keenan Bailey will hope to create a successful offense with the help of Brian Hartline and Tyler Bowen. Ohio State will be looking to go back-to-back after their national title this past season. Doubt the Buckeyes at your own risk.

More on the Ohio State Buckeyes

While the program is in tremendous shape at the moment in Columbus, there’s plenty of change taking for Ohio State, as well. The aforementioned Chip Kelly left Ohio State the program for the Las Vegas Raiders, creating a conundrum on the offensive side for the Buckeyes.

Additionally, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, fresh off a national championship, will also be replaced in 2025. He’ll even be coaching on the opposite sideline, joining the Penn State Nittany Lions. As you can tell, Ryan Day will have his hands full, and not a ton of time to get his team ready for some intense battles.

Regardless, Ohio State is enjoying their victory over the rest of the college football world, as they added another trophy to their resume at the end of the 2024 crusade. Will they be able to reach the pinnacle again in 2025? That remains to be seen, but they’re taking the necessary steps to ensure sustained success.
