Ohio State provides injury update for Cade Stover, tight end taken to hospital
Ohio State tight end Cade Stover was ruled out for the rest of Saturday’s bowl game, as he was taken to a local hospital during the game. The pass-catching weapon for the Buckeyes exited the game in the first half with a suspected hip or lower back injury — something that the team took very seriously by taking Stover to a local hospital during the game.
Cade Stover taken to hospital for back injury
“Cade Stover, their teriffic tight end, has been taken to a local hospital,” detailed ESPN’s Holly Rowe. “Grady Memorial Hospital — it’s about two miles away. They knew that he was having back spasms, a lower-left back injury. But they wanted to be careful. They knew he couldn’t return to this game, so they have taken him to the hospital.
“CJ Stroud, before he left the field, looked at him and said ‘Brother, no matter what happens I love you and I’ve got you.’ But it must be significant because Cade Stover’s one of the toughest guys on this team… if he’s in pain it’s something significant. He’s the toughest kid on this team.”

The injury to Stover appeared to happen on a play where he was upended on a tackle and landed on the field after an impact to his legs. Stover asked to be taken out of the game after the play, but appeared to be in pain as he jogged off the field.
“A developing situation for Ohio State’s offense,” said Rowe initially during the broadcast. “Their great tight end, Cade Stover, with 35 receptions is in the locker room. He was examined by athletic trainers on the sideline for a left upper hip or lower back injury. They would touch on his back and he was wincing, he couldn’t even bear the pressure of where they were pushing. There is an x-ray facility here on site. I will keep you posted when we know more, but it’s a big deal right now — not much depth at that position. Who can fill in, so they can use the formations they want without Stover?”
