Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud had a season-high six touchdown passes in the Buckeye’s most recent 39-20 win over Michigan State. During the game and throughout the season, Stroud has been writing different messages on his wrist tape to honor those who have lost their lives, including former Buckeye Dwayne Haskins, who died tragically in April.

“I met him twice, one time up here and one time as a high schooler at the Elite 11 camp, but I just write LLDH7, long live Dwayne Haskins seven, Stroud said.

Stroud spoke more about his relationship with Haskins, past and present, as the two shared more than just a position on the field and alma mater.

“Honestly, I would say I haven’t forgot about him, I don’t know if anybody else has, but he’s here. He walks in the spirit with me, maybe not the in the flesh, but I know that I was rooting him on when he was still playing and I know he roots me on now even back then last year when I played too,” Stroud said. “I sent my condolences to his family, I know it’s probably still really raw and a tough time for them so my condolences go to them.”

Stroud doesn’t just honor Haskins with his wrist tape messages, but a family member of his who he also lost who acquainted him with the game he still plays to this day.

“I know how it is to lose somebody close to you and I also write long live my cousin, who passed away three years ago last summer. He was one person that introduced me to football as well, his name is Sam House, so long live my cousin S3,” Stroud said.

Stroud concluded with a heartfelt sediment on the reasoning behind his wrist tape tributes, and an inspiring message in general about remembering those we have lost.

“I just try to honor people like that because I don’t like forgetting people, because when he was here everybody loved him, so why not still love him?” Stroud asked. “So I just try to show that message.”

Stroud never fails to impress off the field, as a clear leader and captain of the Buckeyes with unmeasurable intangibles. But he hasn’t on the field this year either, leading the Buckeyes to an undefeated season through six weeks and currently leading the country in touchdown passes, as his personality and play have surely made everyone in his corner more than proud.
