C.J. Stroud had a standout season for Ohio State in 2021 and quickly caught the college football world’s attention – there’s no question about it. Throwing for 4,435 yards and 44 touchdowns compared to only six interceptions, Stroud – who finished the season with a total QBR of 91.6 – led the Buckeyes to an 11-2 campaign, which was capped off with a Rose Bowl win over Utah.

While Stroud receives most of the attention at Ohio State, and rightfully so, the standout quarterback is a well-spoken type of person who likes to talk about his teammates. In a recent media availability with reporters, Stroud was asked to reveal some of the players who have flown under the radar during spring practices.

“I want to keep it secret, but man – I’ll give you two,” Stroud said. “I’m gonna go Joe Royer – that dude is looking really good, and then Kam[ryn] Babb … Kam Babb is looking amazing. I’m so excited for him.

” … I’m going to stop talking.”

Although Stroud didn’t share much insight as to why Royer and Babb are the two players that have stood out to him during Ohio State’s spring period, the two were both highly rated coming out of high school and should be able to have much success in the Buckeyes’ offense this season.

While Royer is a former On3 Consensus four-star recruit out of the Class of 2020, the tight end is entering his sophomore season with Ohio State after making one reception for nine yards in 2021.

As for Babb, the wide receiver is a former On3 Consensus four-star prospect out of the Class of 2018 who will be a fifth-year senior for the upcoming campaign. While Babb’s collegiate career has been plagued by injuries, he’s been working back from another injury recently suffered in spring practice.

Ohio State will continue to go through spring practices leading up to the Buckeyes’ annual spring game on Saturday at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.
