Ohio State freshman quarterback Devin Brown recently took some inspiration from legendary NFL quarterback John Elway. Brown posted a comparison photo to Twitter on Monday of himself next to a young Elway with both wearing red pinstripe short-shorts and throwing a football.

“Now I know why Elway was such a savage!” Brown wrote. “Arm felt instantly stronger in the shorts.”

Brown comes to Columbus as a five-star prospect and the No. 5 quarterback in the 2022 class according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. He is expected to serve as a backup to CJ Stroud for this upcoming season.

Brown attended Corner Canyon High School (UT), where Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart is an alum, for his senior season. He finished the year with 4,881 yards passing, 430 yards rushing and 65 total touchdowns while leading Corner Canyon to the state championship. Brown spent his sophomore and junior seasons playing for Queen Creek High School (AZ), where he was coached by former Ohio State and NFL quarterback Joe Germaine.

Despite this, it appears that Devin Brown idolized another pro player in John Elway. The Hall of Famer spent his college career at Stanford from 1979-82, where he still ranks second all-time with 77 touchdown passes. He was twice named Pac-10 Player of the Year before going on to win two Super Bowls and an MVP in the NFL.

Elway is currently the president of football operations for the Denver Broncos, whom he spent all 16 years of his NFL career playing for.

Brown has a long way to go to even come close to those accolades, but finds himself in a good starting spot. Ohio State finished this past season as the No. 1 offense in the nation and has no shortage of playmakers waiting to move up the ranks. Once Stroud moves on to a pro career within the next year or two, Brown should be handed the keys to the offense, where his legacy can begin.
