Report: Ohio State RB Sam Williams-Dixon plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
Ohio State freshman running back Sam Williams-Dixon plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report from Jeremy Birmingham of The Podcast.
According to Birmingham, Williams-Dixon let the staff know of his plans on Sunday and has all his transfer paperwork completed. He will not remain with the Buckeyes through the end of the playoffs.
In his first season with the Buckeyes, Sam Williams-Dixon logged seven carries for 53 yards.
However, carries were hard to come by in a backfield that featured a pair of national stars in TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins. Both had monster seasons for the Buckeyes.
Henderson ran for 925 yards and 10 touchdowns, while Judkins was a smidge behind him at 924 yards and 10 touchdowns. Regardless, Williams-Dixon clearly felt his best play was to seek a new opportunity elsewhere.
Prior to enrolling at Ohio State, Sam Williams-Dixon was ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 766 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class. He checked in as the No. 63 running back in his class and the No. 29 overall player from the state of Ohio, hailing from Millersburg (OH) Pickerington North.

Ohio State expected to lose linebacker
Sam Williams-Dixon isn’t the only player expected to enter the transfer portal even while the season remains ongoing for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State linebacker Mitchell Melton is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos learned on Sunday. He is a former four-star prospect with three sacks in his career.
He played his fifth season with the program this year. Melton has played both linebacker and defensive end, but settled in at defensive end, a position that he played all of 2023 for the Buckeyes.
After missing both the 2021 and 2022 seasons because of injury, Melton had his best season as a Buckeye in 2023. He played in 12 of 13 games, tallying 119 plays on both defense and special teams. The defensive end finished with three solo tackles, with one of those being his first sack.
On3’s Wade Peery also contributed to this report.
