In a fun moment shared by Ohio State on Saturday, the running backs held a cooking competition with each other to see who had the most skill. Running backs coach and run game coordinator, Tony Alford, shared the video clip on social media of TreVeyon Henderson and crew in the kitchen, laughing as Henderson poured mustard over his dish while Alford looked on confused.

As the group laughed at Henderson preparing his cooking, the camera panned around the room and showed the great time they were having with their coach on Memorial Day weekend. Alford’s caption indicated that alongside Henderson, Evan Pryor and Cayden Saunders — tight end Gee Scott Jr. was in the competition as well.
Alford was promoted to run game coordinator this season by head coach Ryan Day, taking over the additional duties alongside his running backs coaching duty. Alford is entering his eighth season with the Buckeyes and has coached and developed six 1,000-yard running backs in his time with the team. Among his former running back stars are Ezekiel Elliott, J.K. Dobbins, and now-starting back TreVeyon Henderson.

Henderson’s last season as a true freshman saw him become the fourth true freshman to pass 1,000 rushing yards in a season in Buckeyes history. He finished the season with 1,248 yards, second all time among true freshmen behind Dobbins. Ohio State led the Big Ten in rushing last season and ranked third nationally in yards per carry with 5.54 under Alford’s leadership.
Prior to joining the Buckeyes, Alford coached for five seasons with Notre Dame as a running backs and wide receivers coach — as well as becoming a key part of recruiting for the Fighting Irish. His talent for connecting with his players is something that he brought to Ohio State, as moments like the one shared on Saturday can prove.
