Only three weeks after his future with the program was in question, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day became a Buckeyes legend. On Tuesday, Ohio State Football’s official X account only confirmed this shift with a simple post.

“Ryan Day. That’s the Tweet,” the account wrote.

Day’s standing with Ohio State fans has undergone a monumental transformation in the past month. After Ohio State lost to Oregon in Week 7 and fell to Michigan in its regular-season finale, many of the OSU faithful called for Day’s job.

They claimed he couldn’t win big games, or that the program wasn’t making any progress. However, just 21 days after Ohio State’s loss to arch-rival Michigan, Ryan Day kicked off a historic run that even his most vocal doubters couldn’t criticize.

Ohio State dominated during the College Football Playoff, defeating Tennessee, Oregon and Penn State by a combined 59 points. Then, Day showed he’s more than capable of winning big games by handily defeating Notre Dame 34-23 in the National Championship.

After the game, Day discussed his difficult path to success.

“God made it hard for a reason,” Day said. “You just never know what’s in your path along the way. But this game can give you the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. It can take you to your knees some days as a player and as a coach. I’ve been there before.

“For all those coaches or people who are on a journey to what they’re looking to accomplish, if you’re trying to achieve greatness, you’re trying to become national champs in the most competitive environment there is in the entire world. There’s nothing more competitive than college football, in my opinion.

“It’s going to be hard and there’s going to be things you learn along the way, but if you surround yourself with great people, you’re resilient, and you believe in the guys around you, and you just keep fighting and keep putting one foot in front of the other, you give yourself another chance.”

Ohio State was phenomenal in the victory, racking up 445 total yards of offense while holding Notre Dame to just 308. The Buckeyes weren’t one-trick ponies either, tallying over 200 yards both through the air and on the ground.

Although Ohio State’s defense wasn’t able to squeeze a turnover out of the Fighting Irish, it only allowed Notre Dame to convert on 5-of-its-12 third-down attempts. Now, Day will have plenty of time to continue to build his legacy with all of Ohio State behind him.
