Ohio State is mostly known for its prestigious football program, but the Buckeyes’ men’s basketball team has been on the rise – especially this season. While OSU is currently 14-5 overall and 7-3 in Big Ten play, the Buckeyes have been highly successful in 2021-22 – and a big reason for their success is because of the dominant play of standout forward E.J. Liddell.

A former On3 Consensus four-star recruit out of the Class of 2019, Liddell has been on a record-setting tear this season. As Stadium’s Jeff Goodman points out, Liddell is the only player since 2008 to average 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game.

While those averages are nothing short of impressive, Liddell has produced each and every night for Ohio State. He’s scored 20 or more points in nine different games this season – including a season-high of 34 points on Jan. 9 – and is shooting 52.2% from the field on the year.

In Ohio State’s latest outing, an 82-67 win over Maryland on Sunday, Liddell scored 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out five assists to lead the Buckeyes to their fourth win in their last five games.

Liddell and the Buckeyes return to action Wednesday on the road at Rutgers, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.

Liddell has record-setting night for Ohio State in Minnesota win

E.J. Liddell has played at a high level for Ohio State all season long. Having scored in double digits in all of the Buckeyes’ games during the 2021-22 campaign, it’s no surprise that the standout junior forward was at the top of his game on Thursday night in Ohio State’s matchup against Minnesota.

While the No. 16 ranked Buckeyes recorded a 75-64 road win over the Golden Gophers to improve to 13-4 overall and 6-2 in league play, Liddell put together a standout performance – scoring 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting while pulling down 15 rebounds and handing out five assists in 35 minutes of action.

After his dominant outing, ESPN Stats & Info shared a mind-boggling stat that Liddell set on Thursday night: he’s the first Ohio State player in the last 25 seasons to record at least 20 points, 15 rebounds and five assists in a game.
