Freshman quarterback Kyle McCord started tonight for the Ohio State Buckeyes against Akron. The Buckeyes also started freshman phenom running back TreVeyon Henderson.

It marks the first time Ohio State has started a freshman at both the quarterback and running back positions in school history.

Freshman quarterback Kyle McCord

Kyle McCord was one of the most highly sought after quarterback prospects in America coming out of high school and teamed up with Marvin Harrison, Jr. at St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

McCord was ranked as the 19th best overall prospect in America, according to the On3 Class of 2021 rankings. The uber-talented signal-caller was also rated as the fourth best quarterback in America in the 2021 class, according to On3. For his entire career for St. Joseph’s Prep, McCord set city and league records for career passing yards (6,887) and touchdown passes (88).

McCord and Harrison, Jr. made magic together on the high school gridiron. All they did was lead St. Joseph’s Prep to three straight Pennsylvania 6A state championships.

Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson

When he signed with Ohio State, Henderson was rated as the top-running back prospect in America, according to the On3 Class of 2021 rankings.

Henderson has already been busy peppering his name all over the Ohio State record books. Against Tulsa, he rushed for 277 yards on 27 carries.

His rushing yardage total was good enough for third in Ohio State football history. Not only that, he also set the single game rushing yardage record for an Ohio State freshman.
