Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is one of the most interesting prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft. He’s an incredibly talented wide receiver, but he missed most of the 2022 season with a hamstring injury.

Now, at the NFL Combine, it seems like Smith-Njigba is operating at just about full speed. He will participate in every drill except the 40-yard dash. Smith-Njigba confirmed this himself.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba initially suffered his hamstring injury in Week 1 against Notre Dame. He tried to play in a couple of other games but was never able to get fully healthy during the season. Because of that, he only had five catches for 43 yards in 2022. Compare that to the 15 catches for 347 yards and three touchdowns in the previous season’s Rose Bowl.

Ahead of the College Football Playoff, Smith-Njigba decided not to play and begin preparing for the NFL Draft. This was a decision that was directly because of his hamstring but it still led to criticism at the time. However, for Smith-Njigba it was more important to be healthy for events like the NFL Combine.

The wide receivers are working out on Saturday, March 4th, where Jaxon Smith-Njigba is going to try to improve his draft stock.

Justin Fields wants the Bears to draft Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Former Ohio State and current Chicago Bears quarterback, Justin Fields explained that he wants the Bears to go out and draft his fellow Buckeye.

“I’m going with my man Jaxon Smith-Njigba. I’ve seen him in action. I’ve seen how he can separate himself like that and you know his body control is crazy and you know, he didn’t get to play this past year. He didn’t get to show what he could do,” Fields said.

“So, you know, I’m hoping he falls to us somehow. But we do have some help that we need in the trenches. So you know, a lot of people are talking about us taking Jalen Carter or Will Anderson Jr., so we’ll see. We’ll see what happens. So I’m guessing we’ll get one of those guys and you know, maybe some guys in free agency but one guy that I would love to have is Jaxon Smith-Njigba.”
