Paul Finebaum reacts to Ryan Day: 'Keep your mouth shut'
Paul Finebaum had some choice words for Ryan Day following Ohio State’s demoralizing loss to Michigan over the weekend.
While the loss to the Wolverines was bad enough, the brawl following the game, stemming from Michigan players trying to plant their flag on the midfield logo inside Ohio Stadium, turned a postgame celebration into an ugly scene. Finebaum didn’t appreciate Day’s response to the matter, where he defended his players’ actions.
“Yeah I don’t know all the details of it,” Day said, via subdued postgame press conference, regarding the brawl. “But I know that these guys are looking to put a flag on our field and our guys weren’t going to let that happen.
“I’ll find out exactly what happened but this is our field and certainly we’re embarrassed at the fact we lost the game but there’s some prideful guys on our team that weren’t just going to let that happen.”
Evidently, Finebaum believes that was the wrong way to go about it, going as far to call the statement “idiotic” in panning the Ohio State head coach for his words.

“Ryan Day comes up with just this idiotic statement, ‘We’re not going to let them do that to our field,’ try and beat them first and then you won’t have to worry about that. … It happened all day long and all night, because these guys watch other games, but that’s the one that gets me. If you’re Ryan Day, keep your mouth shut,” Finebaum stated, via The Matt Barrie Show.
“I mean, his path is so interesting. Let’s remind the audience, he’s got a brand new athletic director. This is the same guy who fired Jimbo Fisher a few years ago in Ross Bjork. I mean, I don’t know. I don’t think you can evaluate Ryan Day until it’s all over this year, whenever they walk off the field for the final time. But they better not lose in the first round of the Playoff.”
Paul Finebaum does make some solid points. Ryan Day may be on thin ice after losing to Michigan again, and Ohio State’s brass might have a tough decision to make if the Buckeyes don’t end up going as far as they would like in the College Football Playoff. Time will tell how it all shakes out.
