Former Purdue tight end Max Klare, the No. 1-rated TE according to the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings, has committed to transfer to Ohio State, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Klare, the No. 13 overall player in the portal according to On3’s Industry Rankings, chose his homestate Buckeyes over offers from Louisville, Michigan, Texas and Texas A&M.

Klare played in all 12 of Purdue’s games this season. He finished the year with team-highs of 51 receptions, 685 receiving yards and four touchdowns. In the 2023 campaign, Klare appeared in five games and made four starts before suffering a season-ending injury.

In his limited time on the field, Klare left an impression, racking up 22 receptions for 196 yards. The 6-foot-4 standout only played in one game in his true freshman season in 2022 before opting to redshirt.

Klare played high school football at St. Xavier (Ohio) High, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,220 overall recruit and No. 78 tight end in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

During his senior year at St. Xavier, Klare amassed 39 catches for 637 yards and five touchdowns. He wasn’t only successful on the gridiron. He was a standout on the baseball field, as well. Now, Klare will look to take his diverse talents elsewhere.
