Ryan Day addresses Chip Trayanum's switch from linebacker to running back

The Ohio State linebacker room ran thin in 2021, and now the running back room has gone through its fair share of difficulties in 2022. Thankfully, the Buckeyes have versatile contributor Chip Trayanum on the roster to transition from the defense to offense when the need arrived.
Head coach Ryan Day addressed the reason for Chip Trayanum’s position switch and the value he brings to the roster as a contributor.
“We lost TC (Caffey) for the year, so he won’t be available, it’s a long-term issue,” said Day. “And he had been doing some good things for us, so we felt like we need to provide more depth at that position and Chip really had come to us a few weeks ago and just said, ‘Hey listen, if you need anything on offense, I’m here for you,’ which is just the way he is. He’s an unbelievable person and great attitude.

“So we just felt like the time was right, and so that means EA’s got to do a good job stepping up over there and be the fourth linebacker for us. We get Teradja (Mitchell) back and so we felt like we had some depth over there at linebacker and Chip could help us on offense, and certainly has experience playing last year. It was good to get him out there and get him part of the unit because I think we’re going to need him.”

And just a day after the blowout win at home, the program named its players of the game from the impressive victory over the Hawkeyes.

On special teams, Noah Ruggles was a perfect four of four on field goal attempts, so he was named co-special teams player of the game alongside Chip Trayanum, who was active on special teams all game and now will get the chance to make in impact on all three phases in one season.
