Ohio State has turned attention to the 2025 season, recently beginning spring ball. But for at least one more day, the national championship winning team will be honored. The Buckeyes are set to visit the White House on April 14, visiting President Donald Trump in the nation’s capital.

Head coach Ryan Day gave his thoughts on the visit, expressing excitement. He reflected on seeing other title-winning teams go to the White House as a kid, wanting to one day have the honor. After finally breaking through as Ohio State’s leader, Day gets to live out the experience.

“It’s an honor to be invited,” Day said. “We were formally invited. It’s customary. I remember growing up and watching the national championship teams go to the White House. I always looked at that like ‘What an honor that would be.’ So, it’s a part of the celebration of our team. I think the (Philadelphia) Eagles are going before us… Looking forward to getting all of that planned out.”

The Eagles will be there due to winning the Super Bowl against Kansas City. For at least a couple of days, football will take over the White House.

Ohio State did go to Washington DC after winning the 2014 national championship. Former President Barrack Obama was there at the time, welcoming the Buckeyes after winning the first-ever College Football Playoff. Day was not yet on staff though, as Urban Meyer was the head coach, and Tom Herman was the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach.

So something new is ahead for Day and the rest of his team. Details have yet to be finalized but Ohio State will be there on April 14.

Ryan Day explains decision to keep Ohio State spring game

There has been a rapidly rising debate among college football coaches about whether or not to have spring games. Despite several other cancellations, Day made sure to hold one this year.

Now, Day shared why he wanted to maintain that spring game. He explained that it’s both valuable experience for the team’s younger players and that it gives the team’s fans a chance to stay engaged during the offseason.

“I think it’s good for everyone to know,” Day said. “My plan is to have a spring game. I just think we need to save a little bit of wiggle room in case we take injuries. That’s it. We want to do this. We want to play a spring game. Now, there may be some guys that are held from the spring game, but not many. We feel like, I think, we’re 159 days away from playing Texas, and that day will matter to a lot of young players. So, well, we need to get out there and compete. The format of it and how it works will probably be similar to what we’ve done in the past.”
