Ryan Day evaluated the quarterback play from Kyle McCord and Devin Brown following Ohio State’s 35-7 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday.

Speaking with Brooke Fletcher of Big Ten Network, the Buckeyes leader didn’t want to make “any snap judgements,” but he certainly sounded like he believes the offense needs to continue to improve moving forward.

“I have to look at it and see on the film,” Day said. “There certainly were some plays that were made, and plays that were missed. Got to figure out why that is, and why that happened. Sometimes you think you have an idea out here, and then you watch the film and it’s a little bit different. We’ll talk to the guys and see what they saw.

“It’s hard to make snap judgements out here, with so much going on. But it was good to get them the snaps, so we can coach on it.”

McCord started the game and had the best numbers on the afternoon, completing 14-out-of-20 passes for 258 passing yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Brown completed 7-of-13 passes for 101 passing yards, while also rushing for nine yards, as well.

Meanwhile, Day also touched on what he thought of the game as a whole, believing Ohio State has a ton to build on moving forward, but there are some things he’s planning on fixing.

“I think, I guess we scored five touchdowns on nine possessions. If we scored the touchdown here, we got called for holding, it would’ve been six out of the nine. Probably would’ve felt like, a little bit better. I think we’ve got to do a little bit better of a job of getting off the field on defense. Didn’t quite do that in this game. … There were some good things there, but a lot to build on.

“… Just find ways to get stops, and be more disciplined across the board, because that’s going to be important as we move forward to bigger challenges.”

Alas, perhaps Ohio State’s offensive performance against Youngstown State will quell some of the concerns from fans and media members alike following their lackluster day against Indiana in Week 1.

If it hasn’t, Ohio State will have another shot to prove their offense is for real at home in Week 3, with Western Kentucky coming to town. However, a big showdown with Notre Dame is on the horizon in Week 4, so hopefully Ryan Day will have the offense humming by then.
