Ohio State has notably been without TreVeyon Henderson in its matchup with Rutgers this Saturday. With no known injuries or ailments during the week leading in to the game, he was a late game-time decision, according to Ohio State athletics.

Apparently, Henderson picked up a minor injury during pregame warmups and was seen on the sideline in uniform but without his helmet throughout the first half. At halftime, head coach Ryan Day offered a little bit of insight into the running back’s situation.

“It’s nothing big, it’s just we’ve gotta be sure if we’re going to put him in the game. We weren’t sure, something had kind of come up in pregame so we’re going to be careful,” Day said to Big Ten Network’s Rick Pizzo.

In lieu of Henderson being available, Ohio State has turned to his backfield running mate, Miyan Williams, to great success. Williams carried 15 times for 91 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.

Additionally, Rutgers came out early with some trick plays — including a throwback screen in the first quarter — and have tried to keep hitting the Buckeyes with misdirection and subterfuge. So far, Ohio State has lived up to the task.

“We were prepared for it, to expect the unexpected,” Day said. “They’re very creative in what they do. So I thought we did a pretty good job, overall, handling it. Now we’ve gotta make some adjustments and play good coming out for the third quarter. We get the ball, so let’s see what we can do.”

Even with Rutgers trying to disguise looks, the Ohio State defense looked very stout, keeping the Scarlet Knights under 100 total yards.

“Just the way we tackled, running to the ball, identifying it. Getting the big turnover, that was good. And we’ve won the field position game in the first half, gotta keep it going,” Day said.
