Ryan Day wants to see some changes in college football. In the college game, the hashmarks are 40 feet apart. The NFL’s hashmarks are just 18.5 feet apart. Day wants to see college football tighten the hashmarks on the field.

The Ohio State coach thinks that tightening the hashmarks would be good for the college game. Instead of the majority of play being dictated on the tightened sides of the field, tightening the hashmarks could actually open things up over the middle of the field.

“I absolutely would be in favorite of it,” Day said. “I’ve actually considered trying to make a movement in the offseason to get the hashmarks moved inside closer to the NFL’s in college. I think that the hashmarks in the college game are antiquated. It was something that was done a long time ago. It would make it a more wide open game.

“I think it would be really good for the sport. You have to evolve with the times. And I think with the size of our players, the speed of our players have changed. So, we put that ball into the hashmark, there’s a bunch of bodies and they’re all in the boundary. Where in the NFL game, it spreads out and they’re all in the middle of the field. That’s something I’d really be in favor of.”

As Day suggests changes in college football, Ohio State continues getting trolled in recent days

Ohio State has been trolled by Michigan multiple times over the past couple of days. First, Tom Brady took a shot at the Buckeyes. Brady talked about the lack of NFL quarterbacks in the league from Ohio State. Sunday’s game between Tampa Bay and Chicago will make Justin Fields the first former Ohio State quarterback to start against Brady.

“I’m not going to say anything too inflammatory about Ohio State,” Brady said to reporters on Thursday. “I’ll have my time. That’s interesting. Why aren’t there more Ohio State quarterbacks in the pros? A lot of Michigan guys over the years but not a lot of Ohio State guys.”

Michigan’s marching band also took a shot at Ohio State on Saturday. The band pulled out a beer pong inspired halftime show, and mimicked Ohio State missing a shot.

Ohio State and Michigan face off to wrap up the regular season in November. But first Ohio State takes on Indiana on Saturday night.
