Ryan Day shares what Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson can bring to the NFL
Ohio State held its Pro Day on Wednesday, which gave star wide receivers Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson a chance to show off their skills to all 32 NFL teams. Afterward, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day caught up with NFL Network reporter Stacey Dales to share what the duo can bring to the league.
Both Olave and Wilson are projected to go in the first round of the NFL Draft. ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper projected Wilson to go No. 8 overall to the Atlanta Falcons and picked Olave to go No. 16 overall to the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts in his latest mock draft this week. Plenty of hype is building around the duo ahead of the draft, which is coming up in Las Vegas April 28-30.
The experts seem high on the two, and Day shared what each one brings to the table when they eventually get to the NFL.
“I feel like if I describe one of them, I’m going to take away from the other because both of them are tremendous and they’re both going to play really long in the NFL,” Day told Dales. “When you look at Chris, you see a guy who’s got tremendous route-running abilities. You see that against some of the best players we played against, the best competition’s when he played his bets games. He was clutch, a very good route-runner. Can really track a ball down the field well and was really productive for us. He’s a tremendous player.
“Then, Garrett, same thing. Played some of his best games in the biggest games. His catch radius, athleticism, size, strength is tremendous.”

Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave: By the numbers
Wilson and Olave were two of CJ Stroud’s top targets for Ohio State this past season. In fact, Stroud threw to them during the Pro Day, which gave scouts a chance to see what he can do before he tests the draft waters one day.
Wilson totaled 70 receptions for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns on the year, while Olave was close behind with 65 catches for 936 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season. During the NFL Combine, Olave ended up as the faster of the two with a 4.26 40-yard dash, but Wilson wasn’t far off. He ran it in 4.37 seconds.
The two opted out of Ohio State’s Rose Bowl appearance against Utah on New Year’s Day, but they were huge reasons why the Buckeyes finished the year 11-2 overall.
