The Big Ten Football Media Days are currently underway at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN. During the festivities, the Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day joined the Big Ten Network crew on set to share his thoughts about the program as they prepare for fall camp.

Ohio State consistently ranks among the very best in terms of recruiting. And in doing so, they typically have an abundance of talent on the roster. This year, Day and his coaching staff were also big players in the NCAA Transfer Portal, which caught the attention of former Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer. Meyer called the 2024 Ohio State roster the most talented roster he’s ever seen. And Day says he’s not the only legendary Buckeye coach to hold that belief.

“He and Coach Tressel; they know what talent looks like. I mean, those guys are great coaches, and they’ve had great teams before,” said Day. They’re just excited to see us be aggressive and put together a great team. We all know that talent is not enough, but it is exciting to know that this Buckeye nation surrounded this entire program to support it up, to give these guys they need to come back. And then add a few pieces on. So it’s exciting.”

Day fully respects Meyer and Tressel’s opinions. However, the six-year Ohio State head coach believes that excitement fuels the high praise from the two Buckeyes head coaching legends. He understands that he needs to channel that excitement and talent together to execute a successful 2024 campaign. He hopes it ends with Ohio State hoisting the national championship trophy.

While Day didn’t use the moment to take a victory lap with the high praise from both Meyer and Tressel, he did, however, use that moment to praise Buckeye nation for supporting his players. The Ohio State headman also shared his personal thoughts on what this season is all about for him, revealing that he, too, is extremely excited about the possibilities in 2024.

“I think we’re all excited about the potential, the opportunity, that this is; that’s really how you have to look at it,” Day said. “It isn’t so much — how everyone wants to talk about pressure and things like that; it’s really about opportunity. How many times in your life to get to put together a roster like this, a coaching staff like this, and go chase your dreams. That’s really what this is about. A lot of people can approach it in different ways, but I think we’re all just excited about what this team could be.”

Day and the Buckeyes are coming off a 2023 season where they narrowly missed the College Football Playoff and suffered a loss to Missouri in their New Year’s Six bowl game. This season, Ohio State looks to be a part of the expanded playoff field, finishing the year as Big Ten and national champions. And as Meyer and Tressel pointed out, the Buckeyes have the talent to do so. Now, Day must galvanize his troops and lead them to success in 2024, starting with their season opener against Akron on Aug. 31.
