Ohio State is alive and well. After waiting a week to find out their fate, the Buckeye’s season is back on track as they were selected to make the field for the College Football Playoff. Now that they’re in the race again, Ryan Day says it’s a sigh of relief considering the week his team just had.

Day joined ESPN to speak about the Buckeyes making the CFP for the fifth time in history. He said it’s been an emotional roller coaster for his team to go from essentially being down and out to back in the playoff. Now that they have that behind them, he says his team is ecstatic to have another opportunity to win it all.

“(It’s) hard to explain the range of emotions that have gone on here over the last seven days. But we saw our name go up there on the board and knew we were gonna have an opportunity to play,” said Day. “It’s like a second lease on life. A couple days ago we were on life support a little bit. Our season was. And, now, there’s a two-game season ahead of us.”

“There’s unbelievable excitement right now. Guys were just bouncing around the facility. We had a team meeting right before that and there’s just a lot of excitement right now.”

However, Ohio State has a difficult first matchup as they’ll have to face No. 1 Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Having to play the reigning national champions in a city and stadium they’re incredibly familiar with is a tall task. Still, considering where his program was this time a week ago, they’re just happy to have the opportunity and are ready to make the most of it on New Year’s Eve.

“Life is all about opportunity and what an unbelievable opportunity this is. Going down to Atlanta, playing the national champs. Kirby’s done an unbelievable job again this year. But this is all going to be about taking advantage of this opportunity to work harder over the next month,” said Day. “The coaches, the players. Just maximizing every day, practicing really well, preparing to play in this game. Because now we’re back in control of our destiny. We weren’t and that was the hardest thing going into this past weekend. But now we’re back in control of our destiny.”
