Ryan Day reveals plan for Devin Brown, Kyle McCord in second half against Youngstown State
Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes are taking care of business during their Week 2 showdown with the Youngstown State Penguins.
The Buckeyes lead 28-7 at the moment, but the big story coming into the game was the two Ohio State quarterbacks, Kyle McCord and Devin Brown.
During the first half, it was McCord who got most of the burn, but Brown also saw the field for a drive. At halftime, Day told the Big Ten Network his plans for the second half, revealing that he’s hoping to get Brown some more time on the field over the remainder of the game.
“Trying to get Devin in there. Hopefully, we get him at least a few series here. We’ll see how it comes out in the second half. But we’d love to see him get out there,” explained Day. “I thought he competed well. Missed some throws, but that was his first real drive. So good to see that, but we’ll see what happens in the second half.”
We’ll see which quarterback gets more of the playing time in the second half, but it’s evident Day is making a conscious effort to get Brown involved.
Continuing, the Ohio State coach also touched on an essential fourth-down conversion Ohio State had in the first half, and Day explained his reasoning for going for it.

“We want to try to get as many plays as we can,” explained Day. “They’re doing a good job. They’re huddling and milking the clock and snapping inside of 10, so we’re trying to get as many plays as we can. We want to get as many snaps as we can for the quarterbacks, for the young offensive line, to try to get a two-minute drill there. Just out of bounds, dropped the pass. Would’ve loved to see that finish out the first half.
“But some good things there, but we’ll get back in the locker room. I want to get a bunch of guys a bunch of plays in the second half here.”
Ohio State seems headed to a 2-0 start, and they’re making their fans feel a little bit better about their offense at the moment.
Whichever quarterback has been in, they’ve done essential whatever they’ve wanted to do, and we’ll see if that continues, and if Kyle McCord or Devin Brown receives more burn in the second half against the Penguins.
