Ryan Day shares what is 'right' in college football
Ryan Day shared what is “right” about college football amid a lot of conversation about how the sport can be fixed.
NIL and transfer portal run the sport at the moment, and there’s certainly plenty of talk about the College Football Playoff as well. That seems to be what it’s all about now.
However, Day saw what is right at Ohio State and throughout the sport and he gave a pretty intriguing answer.
“Well, I think there’s a lot going on, right,” Day told Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt. “I think when you look at the excitement around college football, it’s still as high as ever. You know what, when you look at some of the environments that we play in, there’s so much excitement around the sport and you know, now more than ever with social media and all the different outlets, I think a lot of our guys are becoming household names and I think people across the country just love college football.”
Day mentioned that it’s not just about the product on the field. There’s more to it for the players off the field, especially those who don’t make it to the NFL.
“I think also, you know, it’s become more than just football, though,” Day said. “I think that you know, so many guys understand that. There’s more to it than just what goes on in the field. And I think guys are grabbing on to that, realizing that when football is over what’s next for me? And there’s more opportunity than ever for these guys.”

Ryan Day opens up on what’s changed since taking over Ohio State
Day alluded to what’s right with college football, but it’s a sport that went through a lot of changes since he came to Columbus and eventually took over as head coach.
“I think when I first got here, you think about where things were and where they are now,” Day said. “But I think the thing that has stayed consistent is that every year there’s been a lot of change.”
For Day, these changes have been personal, at times, as he’s stepped into new roles. Other times, they’ve impacted the entire sport.
“Really started early on. It was a big change for me to come here and then it was a lot of change in ’18 and then my first year in ’19. Then there was COVID and now you have the transfer portal, you have NIL. So, one thing that’s stayed consistent is change and things move faster now than ever. I saw or heard something that our guys now process more information in a day than they would in 1776 in a whole lifetime.”
