Ryan Day: TreVeyon Henderson can be 'as good as anyone in the country'
Ohio State has one of the top returning running backs in all of college football in second-year back TreVeyon Henderson. Henderson came on strong as a freshman last season, and now he is looking to build off of the strong start to his collegiate career in the spring.
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day believes that Henderson’s potential is to be one of the best running backs in all of college football.
“His potential is to be as good as anyone in the country,” Day said of Henderson’s potential at Ohio State. “I think with just a year under his belt, a little more confidence. He’s got certain things he wants to get done this spring and he has a great look in his eye. He’s a very serious young man who, when there’s guys around and he sees that it’s going a certain way, he’ll encourage them. If it’s going another way, he’ll speak up. He’s got a good voice and he sets a great standard for everyone in the building. So I think his potential is as good and as big as anyone in the country.”
As a freshman last season for Ohio State, Henderson rushed for 1,248 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 6.8 yards per carry. He also added 27 receptions for 312 yards and four touchdowns. Overall, he accounted for 1,560 yards and 19 touchdowns from scrimmage, averaging 7.4 yards per touch.

Day: Henderson is off to a good start in the spring for Ohio State
While Henderson had a great start to his collegiate career, having a strong spring is still important ahead of his second year. While the spring can be tough for running backs, Day is encouraged by what he’s seen from Henderson so far in Ohio State’s spring practices.
“I think running back in the spring is a little bit of a challenge because you’re not tackling as much, so that part is a little bit tricky,” said Day. “But in terms of protections and pad level and vision and those types of things, he’s already off to a good start.”
Expectations are high on Ohio State next season, and a lot of that is due to Henderson, paired with CJ Stroud in the Buckeyes offense. Henderson comes in at sixth in the 2022 Heisman rankings for On3’s Matt Zenitz, while Stroud comes in second. The second-year back is also one of the betting favorites for the prestigious honor.
