As the National Championship Game ended and the confetti fell over the Ohio State Buckeyes, they were finally champions for the first time since Ryan Day took over as the head coach. He did so with a quarterback in Will Howard who only had one season to go out and win that championship too.

It can be chaotic after a game like that. So, Day, Howard, and a few other players hopped in a golf cart to get around Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That may have been a mistake, though, as they ended up going viral in the golf cart after there was an incident where it crashed into a wall, seeming to shake up Day who took the brunt of the crash.

Speaking in a presser, Will Howard and Ryan Day were able to joke about the incident in hindsight, happy that everyone was alright despite the collision.

“Obviously the golf cart incident was pretty funny,” Will Howard said. “Coach Day, I hope you’re alright. Got jolted a little bit.”

At that point Ryan Day, chimed in to joke that he was going to “send the medical bills to the CFP.”

There was no real frustration about the incident, though. It was hard for Howard and Day to be anything but happy following a national championship season. It came in a season where the Buckeyes dropped two regular season games and, at times, battled national narratives that were critical of the team. That helped to make the season incredibly memorable for Howard.

“But it’s humbling. Coming to Ohio State, obviously, the expectation and the goal is in the end to win a national championship. The fact that we’re sitting here today as national champions is surreal, man, and you’ve got to really just take it in and thank God for the opportunity to be here, to be on this stage with these guys that I love. We’re gonna be brothers for the rest of our lives because of this. We’re bonded for life,” Howard said.

“It’s more than blood now, we’ve got rings to show for it and we’re going to be able to get together and tell the story of this team for years to come. I’m just so blessed that I was able to come here and be a part of something like this.”

This season will go down in Ohio State history as one of their best teams. It will also be remembered nationally as the first team to win the 12-team College Football Playoff, winning four postseason games in the process.
