Sean McNeil shares importance Senior Night had on win over Maryland
Ohio State has not had the season it planned. A disappointing record in the Big Ten will likely lead to the Buckeyes missing the NCAA Tournament, something you would have found hard to believe during the preseason. Next season will have to be better but for now, all the Buckeyes can do is try to close the year with their heads high.
They were able to do exactly that, ending the home schedule on a positive note. Ohio State was able to send the seniors out in fashion, getting a Senior Night win against Maryland. Players such as Sean McNeil played their final game of college basketball after a successful career. McNeil said this was one he and the Buckeyes wanted in a bad way.
“I haven’t lost on Senior Night,” McNeil said. “This was the last one here. So, we came out with a different look in our eyes for sure. We wanted this one bad.”
McNeil started and played for 33 minutes against Maryland, getting into double figures. He shot 50% from the field and made two of three from behind the arc. A quality performance from the West Virginia transfer, playing his fourth season of college basketball.
Ohio State got a win at Value City Arena as well, their second in a row. They had not won back-to-back home games since late December, having a bit of a dry spell.

Ending victorious in front of the Buckeye faithful will always be the final memory though. Especially against a ranked Maryland team that still had plenty to play for. McNeil and his fellow seniors may not look fondly on the season as a whole but will always have a special Senior Night in Columbus.
Chris Holtmann comments on Ohio State future
Following Ohio State’s upset win over Maryland, head coach Chris Holtmann shared how the late-season rally for the Buckeyes impacted the team’s future.
The two wins in a row improved Ohio State’s record to 13-17, although still a down year for the team. Holtmann acknowledged a lot of different and difficult conversations about the future of the team.
He spoke about that and more following the win over the Terrapins.
“Just a lot of conversations,” Holtmann said. “I think they’ve got to know you care about them as a person. If they don’t feel like that, they’re not going to be willing to have those kinds of conversations and hopefully our guys do.”
