Longview (Texas) four-star running back Taylor Tatum is visiting Ohio State this weekend, according to On3’s Sam Spiegelman. It will mark his first visit to the Buckeyes.

Tatum is the No. 42 overall prospect and No. 2 running back in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 9 player in Texas.

“Tatum is a big priority for in-state schools like Texas and Texas A&M, but the sense is there that the elite running back is leaning out of state at the moment,” Spiegelman said. “He’s coming off his second visit to USC for the spring game and is a priority for both Georgia and Michigan. Oklahoma and also Ohio State have stayed afloat in the race for Tatum, and returning to Columbus this weekend is a very notable movement to monitor with schools like USC, Michigan and Georgia all trending for official visits.”

In addition to the Trojans, the 5-foot-10.5, 200-pound tailback has visited the Bulldogs (April 1) recently. He has also seen the Wolverines (Jan. 28), Duke and Texas this year.

Ohio State, who currently holds the No. 2 class in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, already has a commitment from one running back. San Antonio (Texas) Veterans Memorial four-star James Peoples chose the Buckeyes on April 2.

Tatum breaks down his recent USC visit

Tatum’s visit to USC last weekend gave him an opportunity to meet with head coach Lincoln Riley and running backs coach Kiel McDonald. The four-star is currently scheduled to take an official visit to the Trojans on the weekend of June 3, as well one to Oklahoma a week later.

“When we sat down, we spoke about what he could do with me,” Tatum told Spiegelman on April 16 about his talk with Riley. “He doesn’t see me in just the backfield. He has plans for me when I get there and knowing how much they want a running back that can run routes and be used out of the backfield to do special things.”

“I saw a couple of receivers run routes and some running backs running a few (routes), but the spring game was watered down,” he continued. “Afterward, Coach Mac and Lincoln showed me film of what they did with Raleek (Brown), how he can run routes and play in the slot, and how I could do the same.”
