Todd McShay makes bold NFL comparison for Ohio State receiver Garrett Wilson
Former Ohio State Buckeyes star wide receiver Garrett Wilson is opening some eyes as he goes through the 2022 NFL Draft process. Wilson’s abilities remind ESPN NFL Draft expert Todd McShay of CeeDee Lamb, a young star wideout for the Dallas Cowboys.
McShay called Wilson the best wide receiver in this draft class when it comes to adjusting to the ball.
“His body control reminds me a lot of CeeDee Lamb and what CeeDee Lamb is able to do when the ball’s in the air,” McShay said of Wilson. “Balls in the air, he can torque the body, make the catch whether it’s back shoulder, vertical ball. He tracks and adjusts to the ball as well as any other receiver in this class. The Browns with Baker Mayfield need more weapons.”
Wilson was part of a three-headed monster at wide receiver for Ohio State this season, alongside Chris Olave and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Wilson still had the best statistical season of his collegiate career, hauling in 70 receptions for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns. In his three-year career with the Buckeyes, Wilson caught 143 passes for 2,213 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also had six rushing attempts for 143 yards and a touchdown.
Wilson also played a role in the return game, returning 33 punts in his college career for 205 yards.

McShay has Wilson as one of his first receivers off the board
There are quite a few wide receivers at the top of the 2022 NFL Draft class. In addition to Wilson, USC’s Drake London, Arkansas’ Treylon Burks, Alabama’s Jameson Williams, Penn State’s Jahan Dotson, and Chris Olave are also in contention to be the first receivers off the board come draft night.
In McShay’s latest mock draft, he has Wilson going 13th overall to the Cleveland Browns. He is the second receiver off the board, with London going eighth overall to the Atlanta Falcons.
McShay’s comparison of Wilson to CeeDee Lamb is definitely a lofty one. Lamb was selected by the Cowboys with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma. In 16 games as a rookie in 2020, he caught 74 passes for 935 yards and five touchdowns, adding one rushing touchdown. This past season, Lamb caught 79 of his 120 targets for 1,102 yards and six touchdowns.
Lamb was named to the Pro Bowl for his strong year this past season, and he is viewed as one of the top young offensive players in the entire league.
