Top 50 Jason Moore Commits to Ohio State
Four-star defensive lineman Jason Moore of Fort Washington (MD) Dematha Catholic announced his commitment to Ohio State Sunday evening.
The 6-foot-6, 265 pounder chose the Buckeyes over Maryland, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Michigan.
Jason Moore on why he chose Ohio State
“I was just comfortable in the environment out there,” Moore said. “It truly felt like the place for me. It’s a place I can see myself being for 4 years and I feel with everyone out there with the staff and players, they will help develop and push me to be the best version of myself on and off the field.”
Day 1 Relationships
“The entire staff all shows love,” Moore said. “ I’m closest with coach Larry Johnson of course and the assistant defensive line coach Cam Spence. We all have the background of being from the DMV so we already have a connection from that. But both really care about me and their players beyond football. They will do whatever it takes to teach on the field to develop you. But they will also look out for you outside of football and just in life.”
“Me and coach Johnson would talk all the time just checking in on each other and our families and just life. I’ve known Cam Spence since I was about 3 or 4 years old when he used to play AAU basketball with my older brother. Our families are very close and he’s like another big brother to me so having him out there to support me definitely helps.”
Moore on relationship with Chase Young (who attended Dematha High School and Ohio State as well)
“We do not keep in touch or have a big relationship but whenever I see him we do have good conversations,” Moore said. “He would tell me to go to Ohio state but we really never talked much about the school. We really just talk to check up on each other and see how we are doing outside of football and just in life. But knowing we come from the same high school and seeing him have much success there and now in the league helps me see myself do what he did.”

The top player in Maryland joins the Buckeyes’ No. 2 class in the 2023 team rankings alongside Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, and others.
Jason Moore Scouting Summary
“Moore is one of the more physically imposing defensive prospects in the 2023 cycle, standing over 6-foot-6, 265 pounds entering his senior season,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “He added over 25 pounds between his junior and senior off-seasons. Played varsity football and basketball at powerhouse DeMatha dating back to his freshman season. Has the athleticism and size to play as a strong-side end or three-technique tackle at the next level.”
“Moore uses length in order to keep chest clean consistently against the run. Shows constant pursuit to the ball carrier from the backside. Looks to be a high-motor player. Productive while facing top competition, tallying 13 sacks as a junior. Needs to refine hand usage and pass rush arsenal in order to reach his full potential. Has the frame to continue adding mass once in a college strength program. Older for the class, turning 18-years old as a junior.”
Moore ranks as the No. 46 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 5 defensive lineman and the top player in the state of Maryland.
