Ohio State went back and forth against Youngstown State in the early going on Saturday, taking a 14-7 lead. But as the Buckeyes went to extend that lead, officials called a fumble at the goal line by TreVeyon Henderson, seemingly giving momentum to the Penguins.

After replay review, though, it was overturned.

Officials initially ruled a fumble, but replay clearly showed Henderson crossed the line before the ball came out. They overturned the call and the Buckeyes extended their lead to 21-7.

It was the Marvin Harrison Jr. show in the first half for the Buckeyes. After a relatively quiet season opener against Indiana last week, he broke out for a huge against Youngstown State. Through three quarters, he had seven receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns — proving last week’s game was likely an outlier.

TreVeyon Henderson also scored another touchdown as the Buckeyes offense found its stride.

Both Ohio State quarterbacks have also played in the game. Kyle McCord got the start once again, but Devin Brown has also played, just as Ryan Day said he would. The goal in the second half was to once again get Brown some meaningful snaps after he only played a few against Indiana given the nature of the game.

“Trying to get Devin in there. Hopefully, we get him at least a few series here. We’ll see how it comes out in the second half. But we’d love to see him get out there,” Day said heading into halftime. “I thought he competed well. Missed some throws, but that was his first real drive. So good to see that, but we’ll see what happens in the second half.”

Ryan Day explains the fourth-down conversion attempt to set up the Emeka Egbuka touchdown

One of the key plays of the first half came on a fourth down conversion, which helped set up a touchdown pass from McCord to Emeka Egbuka. It was an interesting call from Day, but he said the goal is to help as many players see the field as possible. That’s why he went for it, and it worked out quite well.

“We want to try to get as many plays as we can,” Day said. “They’re doing a good job. They’re huddling and milking the clock and snapping inside of 10, so we’re trying to get as many plays as we can. We want to get as many snaps as we can for the quarterbacks, for the young offensive line, to try to get a two-minute drill there. Just out of bounds, dropped the pass. Would’ve loved to see that finish out the first half.

“But some good things there, but we’ll get back in the locker room. I want to get a bunch of guys a bunch of plays in the second half here.”
