Former Ohio State cornerback Tyreke Johnson called out Ryan Day after the Buckeyes’ fourth straight loss to Michigan on Saturday. It marks their longest losing streak in the rivalry since the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Johnson played for Ohio State from 2018-20 before transferring to Nebraska. He was part of the team that played against Alabama in the 2020 national championship.

Johnson said that game is when he knew Day “was not the answer” at Ohio State. Alabama won that national title game 52-24, marking Nick Saban’s seventh championship with the Crimson Tide.

“Y’all can say I’m hating or whatever y’all want but. I knew coach Day was not the answer when we played in the national championship against Bama and at half time he didn’t say a word to the team just went in the office and started to blame other coaches,” Johnson wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Ohio State entered Saturday’s game looking to punch its ticket to the Big Ten Championship and snap its losing streak against its vaunted rival. However, Michigan’s defense held strong and didn’t allow the Buckeyes to get into a rhythm, and a field goal in the final seconds sealed the 13-10 Wolverines victory to pull off the stunner.

Afterward, there were plenty of fireworks. A fight broke out at midfield as Michigan tried to plant a flag at the 50-yard line and multiple players were hit with pepper spray. It was a wild scene as the two teams had to be separated following the game, and Ryan Day addressed the situation in his postgame press conference.

“Yeah I don’t know all the details of it,” Day said. “But I know that these guys are looking to put a flag on our field and our guys weren’t going to let that happen. I’ll find out exactly what happened but this is our field and certainly we’re embarrassed at the fact we lost the game but there’s some prideful guys on our team that weren’t just going to let that happen.”
