CJ Stroud‘s numbers on the stat sheet have him apart from the majority of other Division I quarterbacks over the past year, and according to former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, the Buckeyes star’s field vision and accuracy is why he’s been able to rise to the top as fast as he has.

“[Stroud throws] a really accurate, catchable ball, at least is a thing that he does different because you’re talking about not good quarterbacks, but great quarterbacks and [Stroud is] better than anybody they’ve coached,” Meyer said on a recent episode of Urban’s Take with Tim May. “My gosh, and you start slowing it down. How did he know to go there with the ball? It’s a skill.

“You can’t just say we’re born with it because you must work extremely hard with film study and obviously getting coached by two really strong quarterback coaches.”

Through three games with the Buckeyes this season, Stroud has completed 73 percent (62-85) of his passes for 941 yards to go along with an 11-0 touchdown-to-interception ratio – the best in the country heading into Week 4.

With Stroud under center, the Buckeyes have outscored their opponents in 2022 by a combined score of 143-43. Overall, Ohio State has come away victorious in 14 of the 16 games Stroud has started under center, and he isn’t expected to lose many more before his time in Columbus runs out.

While Ohio State has dominated its opposition out of the gates this season, their real tests have are still to come. Starting their Big 10 conference slate this Saturday against Wisconsin, the Buckeyes’ biggest threats still loom largest toward the back end of the schedule.

With No. 14 Penn State on the road in late October and No. 4 Michigan at home for the season finale, Stroud has a perfect chance to secure his legacy by taking down his fellow conference giants en route to the Big 10 Championship and College Football playoff berth that eluded him and the Buckeyes in 2021, and even ending the season undefeated in the process.
