Urban Meyer not bothered by Will Howard cigarette taunt but 'really don't like that stuff'
Will Howard had some fun near the end of the Ohio State game as the Buckeyes throttled Indiana. Going up against Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti, Howard put out the cigarette so to speak.
A little sideline celebration never hurt anyone right? Former coach Urban Meyer wasn’t necessarily a fan, but that goes for any player and any celebration with creativity.
Meyer didn’t have a problem with Howard doing it, but would still be against it if he were a coach, if that makes sense.
“I really don’t like that stuff. But does it bother me? No, I don’t care,” Meyer said on The Herd. “Whatever our players did, just the old adage, and maybe this is old school, act like you’ve been there. But no, you know, Ohio State just gets hammered non stop by the media, Will Howard’s been hammered, and players that have a little fun, have at it. But to answer your question, at times, I just wish you’d go hug your teammates and go play.”
Howard finished the game 22-of-26 passing for 201 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for a score.

It was a big opportunity against a top five team, won by Ohio State of course. Now, Howard and the Buckeyes have to beat rival Michigan to clinch a spot in the Big Ten Championship.
“I still don’t think you’ve seen our best,” Howard said, via Lettermen Row. “That’s the mindset that this team has. And you know, when you go into that locker room and you look in the eyes of every single guy, you just — you see it, man, you see that edge. … The last time I saw this edge in people’s eyes is when [he was at Kansas State] we won the Big 12 [in 2022]. I just, I see that, man, I see that.
“And I know that we have more in the tank, and we’re fired up.”
On the season, Howard has career highs across the board. He has 2,685 yards, 26 touchdowns, six interceptions and a 74% completion percentage.
Howard also has 121 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, two away from tying his career high.
Howard and the Buckeyes take on Michigan at home Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ET.
