WATCH: Ohio State commit Sonny Styles with monster dunk in high school game
Sonny Styles is on his way to Ohio State, ready to join the Buckeyes on the football field. However, that hasn’t stopped the five-star commit from tearing it up on the hardwood prior to getting to Columbus.
Styles threw down some monster dunks in a high school game this week. Check out the highlights that’ll have people wondering if Styles can join the Slam Dunk Contest at NBA All Star Weekend.
Throwing down some rim-rattling dunks, Styles looks the part on the basketball court as well as the football field. The athleticism that made him one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation was on full display.
Ryan Day better be careful — if Sonny Styles keeps showing off in basketball, Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann may try to convince him to play the sport instead. If his highlight reel is any indication, the future is bright for Styles and the Buckeyes.
Sonny Styles: More on the five-star commit
A 6-foot-4, 220-pound athlete, Sonny Styles committed to Ohio State back in November. Moreover, Styles reclassified to the Class of 2022 — letting him join the Buckeyes even earlier.
According to On3’s Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power, Ohio State has a gem in Styles.

“A unique defensive prospect with the size, athleticism and movement skills to potentially make plays at all three levels of a defense,” Power started, describing the five-star recruit. “Combines 6-foot-4, 220-pound size with top-flight athleticism. Posted combine numbers that are better than many top defensive backs and wide receivers – some of the best marks we saw during the spring camp circuit.”
Furthermore, Power revealed what makes Styles’ game so unique.
“Size, athleticism and coordination are unique and give him the ability to impact games as a defensive back, linebacker or potential pass rusher,” stated Power. “Has the upside of being a true moveable chess piece for a defensive coordinator. Can continue to clean up his tackling technique. Doubles as an above-the-rim basketball player with mid-major offers on the hardwood.”
Moreover, Ohio State is in the family for Styles. His father, Lorenzo Styles, is a former linebacker for the Buckeyes. Evidently, the opportunity to make his own name at the same place his father started was too much to pass up.
Sonny Styles is already building his highlight reel. The sky is the limit for the five-star recruit, and for his future with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
