West Virginia transfer RB CJ Donaldson commits to Ohio State
Former West Virginia running back CJ Donaldson has committed to Ohio State, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Donaldson was the No. 6 running back to enter the transfer portal, according to On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings.
Donaldson spent three seasons with the Mountaineers, making 31 appearances and double-digit starts. During his time in Morgantown, Donaldson amassed 1,690 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns on 353 carries.
Donaldson was also a threat in the passing game, reeling in 30 catches for 179 yards and an additional score. In the 2024 campaign, Donaldson tallied 734 rushing yards, 104 receiving yards and 12 total TDs. Donaldson had one of his best showings of the season in WVU’s Week 13 win over UCF, erupting for 96 rushing yards and two scores.
Donaldson played high school football at Gulliver Prep (FL), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 855 overall recruit in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Donaldson should be an immediate contributor for the Buckeyes, who are expected to lose both Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson to the NFL this offseason. Their shoes won’t be easy to fill.

Judkins and Henderson have been perhaps the best backfield duo in the country this season, combining for over 1,600 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, as of this report. Nonetheless, CJ Donaldson will be an experienced RB to soften the pain of Judkins and Henderson’s potential exits.
The transfer portal officially opened Dec. 7 and will remain open until Dec. 28, though players on teams still playing in the postseason will get an additional five-day window to enter the portal after their seasons end.
