The death of Dwayne Haskins shook the football world to its core, but it’s nothing compared to the heartbreak that Haskins wife, Kalabrya Haskins, and their family have felt.

On Wednesday, Kalabrya Haskins released her first public statement following the former Ohio State star quarterback’s tragic death through the Pittsburgh Steelers public relations team.

“I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to every loving soul who has supported our family during this arduous time of loss,” stated Haskins. “The overwhelming thoughts and prayers have been fuel for our emotional depletion. All of your blessings have been greatly valued and appreciated. The meaningful touches and impact Dwayne made as a husband, son, brother, teammate and friend is a timeless treasure imbrued in our hearts. I am truly grateful to everyone who has been by our side as we mourn his untimely passing. Our family implores for your continued prayers, yet continued respectful privacy as we painfully grieve.

“My husband was more than a great football player. He had the smile of a rainbow that touched the diversity of so many. He will forever rest and remain in our hearts til the end of time. His eternal love will always reside with us, Ohio State, Washington Commanders and Steelers Nation for eternity! LOVE OF MY LIFE, FOREVER…REST IN THE
BEAUTIFUL PEACE OF HEAVEN!

“We will be holding a celebration of Dwayne’s life on Friday, April 22, at the Allegheny Center Alliance Church in Pittsburgh, Pa. We invite family, friends, teammates, coaches, and those who want to pay their respects to Dwayne to a visitation from 10-11 a.m., which will be followed by a celebration of life service from 11 a.m.- 1p.m.”

The thoughts and prayers of the sports world are with the family of Dwayne Haskins, and the healing process of the ones who’s lives he touched.

Ohio State honors Dwayne Haskins with candlelight shrine

Days after the tragic death of 24-year old former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins, the school posted an image of a shrine in his honor which has been lit by several candles outside a game with the Buckeyes’ logo behind it. The touching tribute included jerseys, flowers and other memorial gifts including a giant No. 7 patch with messages written across it.

The Dwayne Haskins shrine once again demonstrates the impact he had one the school, the fanbase and those around him during his time at Ohio State.

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback died early Saturday morning after stopping his car on the highway before attempting to cross through oncoming traffic on foot. The incident happened in South Florida near Miami on I-595.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Steelers reporter Brooke Pryor, Haskins was down in South Florida training with other Pittsburgh players for the upcoming season. The trip to Florida was organized by Mitch Trubisky, who signed a contract to become the heir apparent to Ben Roethlisberger. The plan was to train in Florida and do some team bonding, as well.
