4-star CB Trystan Haynes commits to Oklahoma: "To wear Oklahoma on my chest means the world"

Oklahoma State was first to offer Trystan Haynes. Not long after the Cowboys, he added an offer from the Oklahoma Sooners. Haynes grew up following the in-state program. He was a fan of Oklahoma and now he has added his name to the commitment list.

“Staying home and playing for Oklahoma played into my recruitment throughout the whole process,” Haynes told On3. “To wear Oklahoma on my chest means the world. A lot of my family is Oklahoma fans, many of my friends follow the program, so to stay home means everything to me.”

Oklahoma was always a favorite, but the No. 148 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking did seriously consider other schools.

At the very beginning, I thought I wanted to go out of state somewhere, but as I got out to see other places, I realized I wanted to stay at home and put it on for my hometown.

“The more I visited other schools, the more I compared them to Oklahoma. At first, it was Georgia. Then I liked Miami. Texas A&M was another one. Notre Dame was a school I liked too. I always came back to Oklahoma though.

“Whenever I visited other places, I would compare them, and each time I took a visit elsewhere, I would come back liking Oklahoma more. After that visit to Notre Dame a few weeks ago, I knew I wanted to stay home and go to Oklahoma. That is when I made my decision.

“I chose Oklahoma because it keeps me close to my family, how well I know the coaching staff and the relationships that I have with so many other commits.”

Haynes is the third prospect from Midwest City (Okl.) Carl Albert to commit to the Sooners. He joins teammates Marcus James and Trynae Washington. Oklahoma has a total of 15 commitments this cycle.

Haynes believes in Brent Venables

Haynes has been to Norman around 10 times. He has attended games, worked with the coaches in camp and he feels very comfortable around the program. Jay Valia was his lead recruiter, and the two have a great bond. The same can be said about the head coach.

Haynes is excited about the future under Brent Venables.

“Coach Venables has Oklahoma going in the right direction and me and the other commitments are ready to show everyone that Oklahoma is one of those programs,” Haynes said. “With the recruits coming in, and the coaching staff under Coach Venables, we feel are ready to go compete for a national championship.

“He is a great coach and he is very genuine. Coach Venables cares about his players and he is a great guy. He is a great leader too. I am excited about playing for him and with the players on his team.”
