4-star DL Hunter Osborne re-offered by Oklahoma Sooners
Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville junior edge Hunter Osborne was high on the Oklahoma Sooners after an unofficial visit on Nov. 20 that “exceeded his expectations.”
The visit was so impactful that many recruiting insiders believed Oklahoma immediately moved to No. 1 on Hunter Osborne’s list. This was true, even though he was being heavily recruited by SEC power players like Texas A&M, Alabama, Tennessee and Ole Miss.
But then the coaching change in Norman happened. Lincoln Riley left to take the head coaching job at USC. It meant new Sooner coach Brent Venables had to start at square one for the coveted 2023 recruit.
“My jaw just dropped,” Osborne said after he heard the news of Riley’s departure and how it impacted his recruitment. “I’m shocked. That’s huge.”
However, Venables and Co. took a big step toward getting back in the game on Tuesday.
Hunter Osborne said on social media the Sooners had re-offered him a scholarship. The offer came from new Oklahoma co-defensive coordinator Todd Bates, who has deep recruiting connections in the state of Alabama.

Will Alabama offer Hunter Osborne?
It will be interesting to see what happens with the Crimson Tide in his recruitment. Hunter Osborne will unofficially visit Alabama on Jan. 22. He has yet to receive an Alabama offer but it would not be surprising if one came soon, especially since he’s a top local prospect and the national programs, like OU, continue to flood him with attention and offers.
The 2023 cycle in Alabama looks historical in nature both in the quality of the top ten and the depth of Power Five talent. No position is more loaded than the defensive line.
Hunter Osborne is just one of several elite DL prospects in Alabama in this class.
He ranks as the No. 154 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is the No. 22 defensive lineman and the 14th best player in the state, according to the On3 Consensus.
On3 is somewhat higher on Osborne when compared to others in the industry. On3 ranks him as the No. 127 player in the country, the 19th-best defensive lineman and the No. 12 player in Alabama.
