4-star safety Reggie Powers commits to Oklahoma
Dayton (Ohio) Centerville four-star safety Reggie Powers has committed to Oklahoma.
He chose the Sooners following his decommitment from Michigan State on Sept. 26.
Powers is the No. 214 overall prospect and No. 16 safety in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

“I think the thing that stood out the most was the culture and atmosphere when I got there on gameday. It is a very big football school that is very passionate about that,” Powers told On3 upon his commitment. “I loved all of the coaches and all the love I was getting there, it is full of great people and players.”
The 6-foot, 200-pounder took an unofficial visit to Norman on Oct. 21 for the Sooners’ game against UCF. Brent Venables and Co. targeted the blue-chip defensive back amidst uncertainty surrounding Michigan State’s program and have now added another elite recruit to the fold.
“I would say I am the closest with coach Hall, the safety coach,” Powers said. “He is the one I talk to everyday. Also coach Venables with him basically being the DC and working with the safeties, they see me as being able to play multiple safety spots and being versatile in many spots with blitzing and being in coverage.”

He now joins a top-15 recruiting class that features six top-200 commits, headlined by Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman David Stone, the No. 7 overall prospect. The class also features Longview (Texas) four-star running back Taylor Tatum, the top-ranked RB in the cycle.
Powers has an On3 NIL Valuation of $67K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
Scouting Reggie Powers
“Reggie Powers has always been an enforcer in the run game,” On3 Scouting and Rankings assistant Cody Bellaire said. “His ability to trigger and play downhill is textbook for the safety position. And as a senior, he has added another tool to his bag; center fielder. He has displayed the range and long speed necessary in order to thrive as a middle of the field safety at the next level. If Powers can maintain consistency in developing his skillset in the back half and continue playing with discipline around the box, he will be a dominant three-down weapon in the secondary.”
