The Tennessee Titans traveled out west to face off against the Los Angeles Rams. Along the way toward a win, newly signed running back Adrian Peterson decided he was going to make some history.

Peterson rushed for his 125th career touchdown against the Rams, typing Walter Peyton at No. 11 on the all-time touchdown list. It was a third-and-goal situation for Tennesee, running off the left side of the offensive line for the score.

The touchdown put the game on ice for the Titans, going up 28-9. Peterson had 10 carries on the night, going for 21 yards. You can watch the full play here.

Tennessee activated the future Hall of Famer to their active roster on Sunday morning. The signing is already paying dividends.

Adrian Peterson replacing Derek Henry

The only reason Peterson is playing for the Titans is that star running back Derek Henry is out for the season. He suffered a foot injury last Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. Henry was on a historic pace himself, rushing for 937 yards and 10 touchdowns in just eight games.

Peterson was seen as the replacement but is not the only back Tennessee used on Sunday. D’Onta Foreman and Jeremy McNichols getting five and seven carries respectively. The two rushed for a total of 53 yards but neither found the end zone.

Until Peterson can get back into full football shape, the Titans may go with a running back by committee approach.

Peterson chasing more history

With the 21 yards, Peterson is just now 428 rushing yards for fourth all-time on the NFL’s all-time rushing list. Barry Sanders currently holds the title and he would pass the Lion great with consistent play this season.

The former Oklahoma star ran for 604 yards last season with the Detroit Lions. Peterson has rushed for at least 600 yards in 11 out of his 15 seasons in the NFL. He has led the league in rushing with Minnesota three times over his career (2008, 2012, and 2015).
