Albert Breer thinks Spencer Rattler is likely to leave Oklahoma
The college football world has its eyes on Oklahoma’s quarterback situation. Oklahoma decided to bench starting quarterback Spencer Rattler during last week’s game against Texas, and Caleb Williams impressed once he took over. Williams’ impressive play continued into Week 7, where he got the first start of his collegiate career.
Williams completed 18 of his 23 pass attempts in Week 7 against TCU, throwing for 295 yards and four touchdowns. He also had nine carries for 66 yards and a touchdown. Williams’ strong play at quarterback led Oklahoma to a convincing 52-31 victory to improve to 7-0.
With Williams seemingly established as Oklahoma’s starting quarterback, the question now becomes what to do with Rattler. NFL insider Albert Breer thinks that Rattler will be playing elsewhere next year. But Breer doesn’t think that Rattler will be heading to the NFL.
“Oklahoma QB Caleb Williams is really, really good,” Breer said. “And Spencer Rattler’s going to be playing somewhere else in 2022. And that somewhere probably won’t be the NFL.”

Rattler came into the year with massive expectations as Oklahoma’s quarterback
Coming into the season, Rattler was viewed as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft class, and Oklahoma was thought of as a national championship contender with him at the helm. Oklahoma is still a serious contender, as the Sooners are ranked No. 3 in the latest AP Poll. Now Oklahoma is just having that success without Rattler at quarterback.
Rattler was also viewed as a leading contender to take home the Heisman Trophy this season. Instead, he finds himself on the bench, likely contemplating his future. Rattler’s talent is undeniable, but whether or not he’ll ever show that at Oklahoma again is in doubt.
Rattler has completed 76 of his passes for 1,260 yards, ten touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He also has 95 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. Williams was the consensus No. 1 quarterback in the country in last year’s recruiting class. He was a consensus five-star prospect. Williams wasn’t able to play as a senior in high school due to COVID-19, but he was still a very intriguing recruit.
