The 2024 season will be the first for the Oklahoma Sooners in the SEC. With that, comes a much harder schedule.

Eddie Radosevich and George Stoia of Sooner Scoop appeared on Andy Staples On3 to share their thoughts on the schedule for next season. That includes a very interesting game against the Auburn Tigers that Stoia argued will be huge for both teams.

“It’s huge, Andy, and we don’t know what to make of Auburn,” George Stoia said. “I think, because second year under Hugh Freeze and the quarterback situation there and I think they’re gonna be pretty good defensively, and all of that. So, that’s a huge one.”

A major part of why the Oklahoma-Auburn game is so important is how the schedules work out for both teams. In the following week, they each play rivals, with the Sooners taking on Texas and the Tigers taking on Georgia.

Beyond that, Oklahoma has a very difficult second-half schedule, and getting a win over Auburn would go a long way to reach the team’s goals for the season, with games against Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU, and Alabama.

“You look on the back half. Let’s say they [OU] get through those first five games, maybe they lose to Texas. Whatever. Let’s say they’re 6-1 heading to Ole Miss. That stretch right there is the interesting one to me. At Ole Miss. Obviously, you get Maine at home. That’s kind of that throwaway game in the back half of the season… and at Missouri. Those two games are the ones that I think could be big swing games for Oklahoma in terms of winning eight, or nine, or 10 games because I know there’s a lot of guys high on Ole Miss with all the guys they got in the Transfer Portal and Jaxson Dart back and all that. Same with Missouri. They did really well in the portal,” Stoia said.

“Those are the two teams I look at and say those are gonna be really close games and if Oklahoma can win one of those two games or both of those two games, all of a sudden I do think you’re talking about Oklahoma potentially being a Playoff team at 9-3 or 10-2.”

Auburn, similarly, has a long string of difficult games following the Oklahoma matchup. In that respect, it’s a very similar situation for both teams, making it a very important game for them to have a good season.
