Bob Stoops remembers former Oklahoma QB Patrick Fletcher after death

Sad news around the Oklahoma program came out Tuesday morning. Former Sooners quarterback Patrick Fletcher passed away, according to another former player JD Runnels. Fletcher spent three seasons in Norman, primarily as a backup.
Bob Stoops was the head coach at the time of Fletcher’s playing days. Stoops remembered the quarterback on social media, asking for prayers. Nothing but kind words came from Stoops on Fletcher, saying he “loved that guy.”
“Heartbreaking news today, we lost Patrick Fletcher last night,” Stoops said via X. “An always happy, helpful, full of love, & Sooner through & through. I loved that guy!! Please pray for Diana and the entire Fletcher family. RIP P Fletch.”
Fletcher first got onto the field during the 1998 season as a third-year player. Just 41 pass attempts are on the record, with 23 of them being completed. A total of 364 yards accompanies four touchdowns throughout his career.
Three of those scores came during the 1998 season. On the flip side, all four of Fletcher’s interceptions while wearing an Oklahoma uniform were that year as well.
Fletcher also wrote a book Sixteen Red: Living the Dream, detailing his Oklahoma experience from 1996-2000. The final year, the Sooners were the consensus national champions, beating Florida State 13-2 in the Orange Bowl to claim the title.
People acquainted with the Oklahoma program will take time to remember Patrick at some point. Stoops was just the latest, with a nice photo of the two being attached in the post.

Former Oklahoma quarterback Patrick Fletcher reportedly passes away
Former Oklahoma quarterback Patrick Fletcher reportedly passed away, according to JD Runnels, a former fullback for the Sooners. Fletcher was part of the 2000 national championship squad.
“Man….I was never teammates with Patrick Fletcher, but he always made me feel like I was,” Runnels wrote on Twitter. “He will be missed, the truest Sooner.”The video player is currently playing an ad.
Fletcher had 28 games to his credit as a quarterback for Oklahoma from 1998-2000. He finished his career 23-of-41 passing for 364 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions.
“P-Fletch? Yeah, I loved him, too. Listen, you gotta know the story,” Stoops told The Oklahoman in 2013. “Patrick Fletcher, we get there, is a backup quarterback, beautiful kid. Great team guy. We loved him as coaches. Everybody loved him. Team loved him. Backup QB to Josh Heupel.”
