Bob Stoops trolls football world after Oklahoma's upset of Texas
The smoke has finally settled on the Red River Showdown, and the Oklahoma Sooners have bested the No. 3 ranked Texas Longhorns 34-30. And now, Sooner fans and legends are taking to social media to have a little more fun at the Longhorns’ expense, including legendary Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops.
Stoops didn’t need to say much after the game, as he was confident that the program he once spearheaded would walk out of the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, TX, victorious. But what the former Oklahoma headman did have on his mind was a question posed to all those who made predictions on the outcome of the Red River Showdown.
“Just wondering what the OU/TEXAS score was ? Everyone picked Texas,” said Stoops via X.
Oklahoma players flash ‘Horns Down’ after beating Texas
The Red River Rivalry game between Oklahoma and Texas certainly delivered on Saturday. Both teams traded blows before the Sooners ultimately pulled off the 34-30 victory to upset the No. 3-ranked Longhorns.
It’s safe to say Oklahoma players and fans were ready to celebrate.
Multiple Sooners ventured over to the fans at the Cotton Bowl after the game and flashed the “Horns Down” gesture. It’s by far the biggest victory of Brent Venables’ short tenure as the head coach in Norman, and Sooners fans will remember it for a long time.
Dillon Gabriel found Nic Anderson for the game-winning touchdown with 15 seconds left. The defense got the stop on the ensuing possession, and Oklahoma came away with the victory to knock off No. 3 Texas.

Gabriel and the Oklahoma offense had a huge day, totaling 486 yards against a Texas defense filled with playmakers to help the Sooners get the victory. The defense held strong when it mattered most, including on the one-yard line with 11:30 to play in the fourth.
Ahead of that game-winning play, Gabriel said the Oklahoma staff had a message for him.
“(They) told me to do whatever it takes,” Gabriel told ABC’s Holly Rowe. “I’m all about OU football, I love this place, this is what college football is all about, let’s go …
“I love my teammates, I love my team. That’s always what I’ve been about. God is good. God is good.”
Texas wound up tying things up with 6:10 to play in the game, and Oklahoma went three and out to set up a Longhorns field goal on the ensuing drive. But Gabriel and the Sooners didn’t back down, embarking on a five-play, 75-yard drive — capped by the pass to Anderson that put Oklahoma back on top, 34-30. It held as the final score, and Oklahoma improved to 6-0.
