Brent Venables' Taco Bell story lands Oklahoma football free food offer
Brent Venables is self-described as a sometimes “no fun guy,” but he opened things up a little bit on his weekly radio show following a massive win over Alabama this weekend.
In doing so, he might have unlocked the perfect NIL deal for his team.
Venables revealed on the radio that he spent $94 at Taco Bell following the big win, and after a clip of him breaking down his Taco Bell experience went viral, the company itself reached out.
“We think that the whole team needs some celebratory taco bell,” Taco Bell’s official account wrote on Twitter, before instructing the official Oklahoma football account to check its direct messages on Instagram.
So how exactly did things unfold?
Well, Brent Venables broke down his usual gameday routine and explained how he got to the place that he was so hungry he ordered $94 worth from the fast food chain.
“So here’s what a coach goes through on gameday, at least me,” Venables said. “I’m a work out early morning, have a great breakfast and then maybe have a smoothie or something. The closer you get to gameday you don’t want to take a nap, so by the time I’m done with the radio show on a night game and with the media and with recruits and the players and the staff and get in the car and get home, you know, I’m ready to chew an arm off of somebody.”

Obviously head coaches can’t simply be chewing off random arms.
So his daughters instead suggested an alternate — much more palatable — solution to the issue.
“Girls say go to Taco Bell, man, let’s go,” Venables said. “It’s a long line, but man it was worth the wait. It was so long I had to go inside and go to a bathroom break while we waited for the food. We had to pull over, we ordered so much food they couldn’t get it all ready. We ordered everything.”
By the sound of it, the end result was something close to nirvana for Brent Venables. And after that kind of a win over Alabama, why not?
“Whatever they put inside of a tortilla, the crunchy stuff, man, it’s freaking good,” Venables said. “I have no idea what it was. But we smashed that and had some fun, but anyway. It’s good. It’s good. It was worth the wait.”
He also likely collected a few atta boys along the way.
“I got a few double-takes, but I got in and got out,” Brent Venables said. “So it was good.”
