Duncanville (Texas) four-star running back Caden Durham has been one of Oklahoma’s top priorities in the 2024 recruiting cycle ever since Brent Venables was hired.

The Sooners have had plenty of success in the DFW area over the years, and running backs coach DeMarco Murray zeroed in on Durham as one of his top targets, along with On3 No. 1 back Taylor Tatum.

Both were on campus over the weekend for the Sooners’ ChampU BBQ weekend, and OU is trending for Durham coming out of his official visit, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). The RPM now gives the Sooners a 66.9 percent chance of securing his commitment following expert picks from SoonerScoop.com’s Josh McCuistion and On3 national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman, who made his pick in December 2022.

“By multiple accounts, Oklahoma knocked it out of the park this weekend with Durham, who has family all over the state,” Spiegelman wrote on Monday morning. “LSU is expected to get Durham on campus next week and for weeks, the Tigers have been neck and neck with the Sooners with the Texas-based back. There’s a sense Oklahoma started to separate from the pack after this official visit.”

Durham has also taken official visits to Texas A&M and Michigan State this month, with his trip to LSU the lone remaining trip expected before he makes a commitment decision.

The 5-foot-9, 195-pounder is the No. 101 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 8 running back and the No. 20 recruit in the state of Texas.

Caden Durham Scouting Summary

“Big-play runner with home-run speed along with a compact build that allows for an every down role. Measured at a shade under 5-foot-9 and around 195 pounds prior to his senior season. Has continued to fill out his compact frame. One of the fastest running backs and overall skill players in the 2024 cycle. Consistently runs the 100 meters in the 10.5 second range with wind-aided times as low as the 10.2’s.

… Finished 3rd in the state finals as a junior with a 10.53 second mark. Also ran a personal best of 21.54 seconds in the 200 meters. Transfers that speed over the field with ease, where he is one of the more prominent home-run hitters in the cycle. Blows past defenders at the second level, winning the foot race on every occasion. Rips off long touchdown runs with regularity.”
