Former California wide receiver Josiah Martin has committed to Oklahoma, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Martin is the fourth wide receiver Oklahoma has landed in the transfer portal this offseason.

Martin only spent one season at California, where he made seven appearances. He finished the 2024 campaign with 12 catches for 112 receiving yards, along with five carries for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Josiah Martin played high school football at John H. Guyer High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 714 overall player and No. 113 wide receiver in the 2024 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Martin amassed 121 receptions, 1,806 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns in two prep campaigns for teams that combined for a 21-5 mark, with the 2022 squad reaching the 6A D2 state semifinals.

Martin is only one of the many fresh faces who will be around Oklahoma’s offense next season. On Dec. 2, Oklahoma hired Washington State‘s Ben Arbuckle to be its next offensive coordinator. Just over two weeks later, WSU quarterback John Mateer transferred to Oklahoma, following Arbuckle’s lead.

Mateer tallied 3,139 passing yards and 29 touchdowns while only throwing seven interceptions this season. Mateer was also a serious rushing threat, recording 826 yards and 15 touchdowns in the ground game.

With threats like Martin out wide, Mateer should have no issue improving his statistics next season. Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables is excited to see what Mateer brings to the program.

“John, he grew up here in the Dallas area and is very familar with Oklahoma,” Venables said. “Certainly, coach Arbuckle coming, there’s a great familiarity and comfort for him. We’re incredibly thankful he chose to be a Sooner. It’s a very competitive space, as everybody knows.

“Appreciate the coaching staff for what they were able to do in convincing him to come and just improving that room. We had to really start over in that room. It’s in a much different space than it was just a couple of weeks ago as we know.”

The transfer portal officially opened on Dec. 7 and closed on Dec. 28, though players on teams still playing in the postseason will get an additional five-day window to enter the portal after their seasons end.
