Class of 2024 safety Mykel Patterson-McDonald of Moore (OK) Westmoore High announced his commitment to Oklahoma Monday evening.

The 5-foot-10, 180 pounder chose the Sooners over Missouri, Houston, and UNLV.

Patterson-McDonald on why he chose Oklahoma

“How they made me feel when I stepped on campus, how they approached me, how they talked about the game to me, the way I was able to talk to them. I was able to talk comfortably. It felt like home. They took really good care of me every time I got on campus.”

Relationship with coaching staff + their plan for him

“I’m closest with coach Hall.  We have a good conversation every time we talk, he always talks about how good my IQ is and how much better of a player I can be but it all depends on me if I’m willing to. He’s always straightforward with me and honestly they plan on playing me at safety, maybe some corner, not sure yet.”

The Oklahoma defensive back joins coach Brent Venables and the Sooners’ top 15 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by four-star quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr., four-star tight end Davon Mitchell, and others.

Patterson-McDonald ranks as the No. 766 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 75 safety and the No. 7 player in the state of Oklahoma.

He currently does not have an On3 NIL Valuation publicly listed. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
