Dillon Gabriel credits offensive linemen in game-winning drive vs. Texas
Late in Red River, Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel helped cement his legacy with a game-winning drive to knock off the Texas Longhorns. Rightly, he’s gotten a lot of praise for the game, but Gabriel wants to credit the offensive line for the final drive.
While speaking to Bob Stoops on Sellout Crowd, Dillon Gabriel praised his offensive line on the final drive of the game. In particular, both Gabriel and Stoops were impressed with Walter Rouse, who blocked two Longhorns on one play.
“You really should be hot off of one of those bodies and he squeezed and he took with one arm each, which is extremely hard to do and I think is the play of the game,” Dillon Gabriel said. “I always say, there’s no throw without a block and there’s no pitch without a catch. So, just the whole unit coming together and really making a play come to life. It was very special.”
Rouse absolutely deserves love from Stoops and Gabriel for the play. At the same time, it’s Gabriel who is getting love from around the country after he led that drive with ice in his veins for a score. Former Oklahoma quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray both praised his performance. On top of that, experts like Joel Klatt are starting to hype him up for the Heisman Trophy.
For Dillon Gabriel, the Texas game was the exact reason why he went to Oklahoma.
“This is what OU football is all about. This is why I came here, this game. Lots of respect to Texas. They played their butt off … At the end of the day, making plays,” Gabriel said.

“[They] told me to do whatever it takes. I’m all about OU football, I love this place, this is what college football is all about, let’s go… I love my teammates, I love my team. That’s always what I’ve been about. God is good. God is good.”
Dillon Gabriel explains his relationship with Oklahoma wide receivers
Another unit that Dillon Gabriel has tons of faith in is the wide receiving room. Those are players who he’s comfortable with and believes in on the field.
“As a whole, I’d say I always bring up how do you expect a person to trust you on the field if they can’t trust you off the field or even have a relationship with you off the field? I’m a big believer in that, just who I am as a person,” Gabriel said.
“I see these guys every day, I want to have a bunch of fun and push one another but also be able to have that connection off the field. So I think that as a group has been why we’ve been so close.”
