In the two weeks since Dillon Gabriel‘s Oklahoma debut, the UCF transfer has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the Big 12. Leading a Sooners offense that has outscored its opponents 78-16 through two games, Gabriel will look to continue his hot start to the season, which hits the road this week at Nebraska.

Before the first road trip of the season, Gabriel discussed the role that Memorial Stadium has played in his performances and how that raucous atmosphere can help sway the game in the Sooners’ favor.

“[It’s been] amazing,” Gabriel said. “I never fully soak it in when I’m in the moment just because I’m so focused on the game. But when I look back and watch the rerun or I’m watching the game on tape, it’s just super cool to see what OU is able to put on and put on for us, but likewise for the fans. And the lights was something I had no clue was going to happen. Just little things like that I really never take for granted.”

Through two games this season, Gabriel has completed 71 percent (36-51) of his passing attempts this season for 529 yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions. After consecutive matchups against the likes of UTEP and Kent State, competition will get slightly stiffer this week against their Big Ten opponent.

Now, Gabriel and the Sooners are tasked with their first road game of the season against a Nebraska team that just fired head coach Scott Frost. Still, it’s a road game against a Power Five opponent and no matter who the opponent is will always present some sort of home-field advantage.

“The way we prepare and the way we practice kinds of gets us ready for it, as fast as we play, the noise, with the noise of practice,” Gabriel said about preparing for Nebraska on the road. “But it’s difficult to replicate a game atmosphere, but I think we do a really good job at trying to get as close as we can.”
